It does not mean that if you are diabetic is that you will eat boring foods all your lives. When it comes to dinner planning, diabetics should be more cautious because their blood sugar levels should be maintained. Diabetic people are required to control their weight or sometimes lost weight in order to decrease the risk of heart disease such as stroke or attack. A diabetic diet menu is not outlined in single plan that should be followed by diabetics. The menu ideas may vary from one diabetic to another depending on the kind of diabetes that the person has. For instance, a person with gestational diabetes, type two diabetes, and type 1 diabetes need to follow diverse diabetic diet meal plan.

In type 1 diabetes, the body of a person cannot produce enough supply of insulin hormone. This type of diabetes should work together with the person’s diet plan along with the diabetic diet menu plan. There should be a right balance between the food intake and insulin therapy of the diabetic person. Normally, dietician will prepare a diabetic diet menu that properly balances the person’s diet and medication. On the other hand, the daily diet for people with type 1 diabetes should be rich in dietary fiber and decreased in amount of sodium intake. Foods low in fat and sodium are highly recommended. For lunch, their options can be whole-wheat tortillas with filling, brown bread vegetable-meat sandwich, or salad with olive oil dressing. For snacks, the can go for low-carb snacks such as dried fruit, pumpkin seeds, almonds, sunflower seeds, and pistachios. During dinner, they can have good foods like bowl of dark green leafy vegetable, baked/grilled fish, lentils over brown rice, and pinto beans. Gestational diabetes is common in pregnant women. It is a temporary form of diabetes resulting from pregnancy hormones. Because of this, pregnant women are required to limit their carbohydrate intake from their daily meals. Since intake of carbohydrate is reduced, it is best to consume more proteins during breakfast. It can be egg, turkey, or chicken just to keep the person fuller for the day. Other food options for breakfast meal are scrambled eggs, veggie sausage, English muffin, corn tortilla, oatmeal, pancake, bagel, or slice of bread. Carbohydrate intake during breakfast should also be limited to 30 grams.

For lunch, people with gestational diabetes can enjoy menu options that include tomato, lettuce, apple, carrots, lentil soup, and chicken/meat sandwich. Carbohydrate intake during lunch should be limited to 45 grams only. As for dinner, the options would be reduced fat milk, bowl of vegetables, tofu, salad, fish, pork, turkey, chicken, beef, small potato, brown rice, and one-cup pasta. Carbohydrate intake during lunch should be limited to 45-60 grams only.
